Winter 2024

Columbia/Congaree National Park

We stayed at Dreher Island State Park. It’s on Lake Murray 45 minutes west of Columbia, South Carolina. The view was by far the best of all the campsites we had.

We went to Columbia on a Saturday when they had the Soda City outdoor market. It was a nice day to walk around the city and river.

We went to Congaree National Park, the largest intact expanse of old growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the southeastern United States. The forest is actually a flood plain. It’s periodically covered by water throughout the year when neighboring rivers overflow. Part of the trail was flooded when we were there, but that actually made the park more interesting.
