It was a beautiful drive through Dixville Notch and Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge to our next stop, Rangeley Lake State Park. All the sites were really private and there was access to the lake, so we were able to kayak.

We hiked Bald Mountain. It’s only 2.4 miles roundtrip, the first 3/4 is gradually up, but the last 1/4 is steep with a lot of bouldering. There was a tower at the top so you could get a view over the trees.

We drove up Quill Hill. This is private land, but the owner felt the view is so good it should be shared with everyone. He spent many years building and perfecting the road and viewpoint. The views were incredible, but unfortunately the day was hazy.

We did 2 smaller hikes, Cascade Gorge and Small Falls

We had a nice lunch at Furbish Brewery. They only had 2 beers on tap, and ran out of one. The brown ale they did have available was very good. Afterward we tried Pine Tree Frosty for ice cream. The ice cream was okay, but they had adirondack chairs lined up alongside a pond that you could eat at.

I was waiting for the ice cream, sorry it wasn!t very good but at least the beer was tasty! Gee Scott. I’m impressed that at your age, you could get up from an adirondack chair” I gave those up YEARS AGO!
