Moosehead Lake

We stayed at Peaks Kenney State Park, 50 minutes southeast of Moosehead Lake. Once again a really nice private site, with a short walk to access Sebec Lake.

We did a Moose Safari canoe trip with Northeast Whitewater. They drove us to a pond where they’ve seen moose often feed. It was an hour drive, but the guide gave us a lot of information about moose and history of the area. The pond was extremely peaceful and quite, but unfortunately we didn’t see a moose. On the drive back from the pond though there was a moose calf walking in the road. The guide stopped the van and we were able to get out and take pictures. The moose actually started to walk towards us.

We were happy it was a beautiful clear morning because we had a seaplane tour of Moosehead Lake and Lobster Lake scheduled. It was amazing! The takeoff and landing from the water and the views were incredible. The seaplane was built in 1954 and looking at the controls you can tell.

  1. That little calf was SO cute! Did you ask him if he was lost? Yeah, those controls were old—just 3 years younger than me!
